Immigration Detention

Current detention facilities where detainees are held are located at these north Texas locations.  Dallas Immigrant Detention Center, Dallas; Rolling Plains Detention Center, Haskell; Don Hutto Residence, Taylor; Johnson County Detention Center, Cleburne.

Detention is not a criminal matter but is a civil matter authorized by Congress.  This process allows the government to maintain custody of a person to assure that they attend any and all immigration court hearings.  Typically, people who are held in civil detention are aliens who are charged/convicted of a crime, who arrived at the border, who have an existing order of removal, and who have been previously removed from the United States.
